Rwanda's most celebrated writer, who lost most of her family in the genocide and has spent eight books putting them back on the page.

Born in 1956 in the former Gikongoro province, Scholastique Mukasonga is a French-Rwandan author and Rwanda's most celebrated writer.

In 2012 she won the prix Renaudot and the prix Ahmadou-Kourouma for Our Lady of the Nile. She has written eight works of memoir and fiction, all in French.
